Taking your Vape abroad: What you need to know
Final Boarding Call, grab your bags and get onboard!
Hi and welcome to your one stop shop for everything you need to know before you go and board your flight.
Later, we will be releasing a blog post outlining how countries differ from one another, though that blog is taking some time to compile, so in the meantime. What are the rules on taking your vape on a plane? Can you take liquids with you? Can you vape on a plane? Read on to find these out and more.
Airports and Vapes
So you are going on holiday and you are catching a plane. If you are in Britain then you probably know that many pubs / clubs are okay with people vaping inside, however this is up to the person running these establishments to decide. Airports put vaping alongside smoking and so you will not be allowed to vape outside of specified areas. This is for good reason, with so many people coming and going, random plumes of vapour could be misinterpreted as smoke from a fire and cause a panic. So keep them stowed outside of the smoking area.
Also, don’t try sneaking a vape in the toilets. A lot of places have PG detectors in the toilets to stop you doing this and it would put a real crimp on your trip to Turkey.
Can you take your vape on a plane?
Yes, but again, don’t use it. There are alternatives you can buy that are fine to use on a plane but Vaping is a big no go. Don’t forget that they can’t just “open a window” or something. There are alternatives to vaping though, from nicotine pouches and nicotine strips to NicPix and gum. There is more than just Nicorette out there now.
So I can take my Eliquid too?
Yes. Most countries have bans on the sale, not the use of the devices if they have restricted them. However, your e-liquid counts towards your overall liquid allowance. If you take the liquid with you in carry-on luggage, you can’t take more than 100ml, and you must put it all in a clear plastic bag (approximately A4 sized) so that security can check it. For most brands I would advise doing this too as the drop in air pressure can have negative effects on the liquid.
QSalts have been tested in regards to this as we care about giving you the best we can and so they don’t suffer the same issue. It’s why our cherry cola doesn’t sometimes taste of honey instead.
So my device can also go in carry-on luggage?
Yes it can. Best to turn it off though. As you fly it would be pretty bad if it managed to start firing in your bag. Don’t need a scene from Airplane to unfold on day one cause someone thinks its a bomb or a fire. Switch off your device, if there are batteries that can be removed, place them in a battery case, close your airflow to minimise the chance of leaking and don’t forget to open it back up before you take a drag at your destination.
Okay, so I can take my device, will I really not get in trouble for taking my liquid?
Some countries limit how much e-liquid you can take with you. Most countries have some rules surrounding vaping and the sale of them which are almost identical to our own. This meaning that you will be perfectly fine taking your standard e-liquid to most countries but don’t go vaping on buses, playgrounds, in malls etc. Go somewhere you would expect to be allowed to smoke and you will be allowed to vape.
Now, I did say “standard e-liquid” there. I said it like that for good reason. DO NOT, and I mean do not, take CBD liquids to other countries without checking their legality. There are many popular holiday destinations that consider CBD to be as bad as THC and often place them both as bad as much worse drugs. There have been people arrested in places like India for taking CBD e-liquid with them, so again, do not take it with you if you don’t know!
Okay, so, like, I’m going to Australia. That is a looooong flight! How will I survive…
That is a good question. Long-haul flights can be stressful even for those who don’t smoke or vape, but there are alternatives. Things like Pouches like Pablo and Killa, Strips like Jolt, you could get a patch or a new novel one, NicPix, nicotine infused tooth picks. This gives you something to chew/suck and get your nicotine without the weird alien feeling of a pouch in your gum. These aren’t for everyone. I personally don’t like pouches but that said, in a 13 hour flight they really helped. So don’t discount them.
Whelp, I think that covers it. The TL//DR? Don't vape in the airport or on the plane. Don't take 2 litres of e-liquid. Be mindful of the people in your holiday destination, and don't forget to check out the available alternatives to help you outlast your cravings during your flight. Have a good holiday, and hope to see you back here again soon.
