Battery Life: What to Consider

Battery Life: What to Consider

We’re used to things running off of batteries, so much so that people often carry around a spare charging cable and public transport often comes equipped with plugs to use these in.

So, you have another battery to take care of now. There’s a few things to know though before you unplug your Samsung S25 or iPhone 16 and plug your device into the same plug.

Not all batteries are alike.

You can’t just plug anything in anywhere, and I don’t mean that the plug won’t fit. If you’ve ever used your phone while it’s on charge, you’ll notice that it gets hot. This is because charging a battery generates heat. Imagine it like cars in a carpark and the heat is the drivers getting annoyed as the carpark fills up. If you use a cable that is made for extreme fast charging like an Honor 200’s 100W charger, vs  a 12W charger you have sat in a drawer from 2010, you will be taking a highway or motorway and directing it straight into an Asda carpark… Get the idea? It’s a recipe for disaster.

If you read the instructions that come with your devices, you will see they all say “use the provided charger”. This is because the provided charger is designed for your battery and if you don’t heed that warning, you could be at risk of fire.

How best to charge your battery.

For best results, Lithium Ion batteries should be charged before they reach 0%, and not charged about 80%. This is obviously not something you can always do but thinking back to the carpark analogy, at the start, cars flood in, and at the end the cars are going round in circles looking for a space. In both of those cases you have a chance for a collision to occur. In terms of your battery, this results in a loss of capacity or charge. The Q2Pro comes with a ring light that gives a more accurate representation of the charge for this reason. When the battery indicator is orange, it should be put on charge, if it goes red it’s almost out, and charging to violet will give you a full charge but blue is sufficient for a longer battery life.

Additionally, don’t charge your battery overnight. I know, it’s convenient, but if you place it on charge overnight, the charger will keep charging even when the battery is full. Sure, it might not be able to do anything, but it does cause damage to the battery if it’s not designed to cut off the charge at the plug like some modern phone chargers.
