Ohmage: What is it?
Ohmage, what is it?
Super short answer, Ohms is resistance. There you go. What? Oh, you wanted to know what it means. Okay, not a super short answer.
Ohms is what the resistance of a material is measured in when you measure how much electricity can pass through it. In electronic cigarettes, we often look at the coil part of the device as something with ohms and will often pick an ohmage we like. For example, I personally like the 1.2Ohm QSeries pods, though most people go for 0.8Ohm for that little extra kick.
Something to know with the Ohms as a general rule of thumb is that if the number is smaller, it will likely draw more power, create more vapour and use more juice. This isn’t a linear scale either as different coil types will have an effect too. In the terms of the QSeries pods, the people at HQLABs and Vapefly have made them to be almost exactly double the vapour on the 0.8 Ohm to the 1.2 Ohm. This is great for knowing how much you will use when you’re quitting smoking.
So, what does this mean for you?
Well, there are a few points, 1, if you have a high ohm, general 1 or more ohms, you will use a high PG liquid.
If your device has multiple coils you likely want to use a high VG liquid.
If you’re looking at a mesh coil, this does not mean you can’t use a specific liquid but you will get a better performance from this coil type. It doesn’t really have any effect on the coils resistance though you won’t see these with a very high ohmage.
If your device shows you the resistance on a screen for your coil, and you notice that it is higher than it should be, take off your tank, pod or atomizer, and put it back on to let the device retest it. If it still reads wrong, then you likely need to replace the coil as it has become damaged.
